In A fast adaptive multipole algorithm for particle simulations,1987,by carrier greengard rokhlin about FMM 2D i've not well understood how to compute the local expansion of the X set:should i calculate an outer(multipole) with just the first element different from zero and then from this one the local? And after this do i have to compute the shift of the X local expansion too from the parent(in the article i haven't found this passage)?

i must add that with a non uniform distribution of 10 masses in some particles(especially the ones with not empty X) the precision goes from 9 digits for the potential to 6 digits for the force
